KWA M16

I am extremely bored right now so I figured I'd let everyone know that my KWA KM16 just arrived today and it's NICE. Especially with my G&G M60 flashhider on it =D
I do, however, have a couple of questions/problems:
1. It chronoed in at 450 with .20's at airsoftgi. This isn't good AT ALL (When Hell Freezes Over 2 - 400 fps limit)
2. I have read that my gun doesn't really accept a whole lot of aftermarket Hop-up sleeves/rubbers. I'm looking at a firefly rubber, but not sure if this will fit?
Well, it's a very solid gun. I only fired it for 2 70 round mags (one with .20's and one with .25's) It's a great shooting gun, but I'm hoping it won't be too hot for the event coming up.
Anyone know some tricks to decrease velocity? One is to half-way engage the spring by switching to full-auto and only go through a half of a shot and let the spring sit overnight, compressed, lowering velocity. Other than that, I'm stumped. I'm DEFINITELY not taking it to Toledo. Crappers.

Take it to Airsoft Smith. It's twice the drive of Toledo, but you know it'll be done in time for the event, and you know it'll be done right.

Well other then compressing the spring you could change the spring. but i doubt you want to open up your gearbox.

Tony: I don't think that he would have it done in one trip for me. He probably would have to ship it back to me or me have to go pick it up. At least that's what others had to do.
Bnag: I'm not even thinking of opening up my gearbox, lol. Tried that once: didn't screw anything up, but this is my prized possession. Haha.
I will check with the guy I used to paintball with down the street. He has a chrony and I'll chrono with .25's as well as try to get as many rounds through this thing as I can.

Hopefully you have a sidearm or backup AEG for the event just incase. We had a guy with us at Blind Fury last year and his KWA chronoed a hair over 400 and he couldn't use it. I'd imagine the guys hosting WHFO will be a little more lax, but I wouldn't bet on it.
As for the hop-up, Joe is the only one on the team with a good amount of KWA experience, might want to ask him.

Yeah. I do have a backup, but it's nothin like my KWA, lol. It's an ECHO1 Stag-15 (M4). Either way, atleast I can use the same mags I bought for my M16.
I know how to install hop-ups and everything, it's just my inexperience with the KWA hop-up that's the problem. I did, however, remove the hop-up sleeve and soak it in warm, soapy water to remove the silicon caked on it for storage.
Anyway, do you know if they make you turn your hop-up on or off for the chrono? I might be able to turn it all the way on for the chrono and be able to decrease a little fps that way as well. I'm going to get my spring replaced for sure here pretty soon, but I don't want to open the gearbox until my warranty is no longer available (45 days). KWA was smart enough to put a "do not remove" sticker across the gearbox so they know if you tinkered with it or not.
Thanks for the reply Matt.

I didn't mean it would be fixed for you in one trip, but if you took it down there tomorrow I'm fairly certain it could be fixed and shipped back to you by WHFO.
Also, I've never been to an event where they asked me to do anything with my hop-up at the chrono. I've just walked up, fired, and they gave me my pipe cleaner/ziptie/etc.

Oh, ok. I'm going to turn my hopup all the way on to create as much resistance to the bb that I can.
Hopefully it will be enough.
I might leave my spring compressed for a day or two as well.
Thanks

I haven't messed with my hop up. I know that KWA makes special hop ups. i don't know what brand or anything. but thats the only thing u can do for that. As for 450. I left my spring compressed for about 1 to 2 days and it dropped it to around 370. Mine started a hair above 400 so theres some perspective. Did u get a LiPo with it. because let me tell you. With the LiPo it basically becomes a support weapon.

Lol. I did mess with the hop up assembly and it's almost the same exact thing as the 2-piece TM hop-ups. The only difference is that the KWA uses a different air nozzle, one that creates a better seal. To use an aftermarket 2 piece hop-up, you also need to change to a TM compatible air nozzle.
I didn't get a LiPo with it, mainly for the health of the gearbox. I want this gun to last as long as possible, and a LiPo would definitely speed up the time until I would need a repair.
However, I got 2 9.6 Volt batts and they provide a GREAT rof.
Do you still get the range that you did with 370 that you did before you left the spring compressed?
